Burundi has long been overlooked in comparison to its neighboring East African specialty coffee producing powerhouses. The country’s coffee is produced almost entirely by smallholder farmers, and much of this small-scale production is of exceptional quality. This Kibingo lot embodies the nuanced floral and fruit notes that we love in Burundi fully-washed coffees.
Kibingo Washing Station is located in Kayanza commune in northern Burundi. Kibingo serves 3,515 registered coffee growers who are spread over 18 hills in the area. The washing station participates in a number of farmer outreach and support projects including a livestock rearing project and range of Farmer Hub projects centered on strengthening cooperatives and improving yields (i.e. fertilizer made from composted coffee pulp at the washing station). The green coffee we’ve purchased from this lot also contributes to the Sucafina Farmgate Initiative Project (https://sucafina.com/na/sustainability/about-the-farmgate-initiative). In the context of Burundi, this importer group runs a Livestock Project - which as mentioned above can have a considerable impact on family income and nutrition.

We roast on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and to ensure the best tasting coffees, orders received after Monday may not be processed or shipped until the following week.
