The Katheri Farmers Cooperative Society is located in north-eastern Kenya and has 1,377 participating farmers. A managing 7-member board led by Gichunge Ikiara is committed to high standards of farming, processing and storing coffee. Most farms in the region are between 1-2 acres each. The region has cool hilly terrain with abundant rainfall and mineral rich soil producing bright, complex, and aromatic coffees with a silky body and wine-like acidity. The cherries are hand-picked, hand-sorted, dried in the traditional Kenyan style, then transported to and processed at either the Gichugene or Kinjo Wetmill.

Farmers in the Katheri Cooperative are trained and educated in best practices for sustainable growing and proper plant maintenance techniques as part of their membership in the FCS. The board is currently seeking new certifications to reflect their dedication to sustainable farming and achieve a higher sale price for their members in a time where many are choosing to abandon their farms to grow tea in the region. The commitment to their farmers and to the quality of their coffees really comes through in the cup. This coffee showcases some of the things we love most about Kenyan coffee and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

We roast on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and to ensure the best tasting coffee, orders received after 8pm Sunday may not be processed or shipped until the following week. Wholesale Customers are asked to please place orders no later than Sunday evening in order to receive orders same-week. Thank you!
